Margaritas are a popular Mexican drink that has floated across the border and made its way to many Margarita Mondays, Taco Tuesdays, and happy hour days. The drink, which can be made with various spirits but most popularly tequila, was thought to have been created in the 1930’s. The beverage sees its first origins on the west coast of Mexico, having been created for a customer who was allergic to a majority of alcohol. Tequila, being one of Mexico’s most popular spirits, was combined with triple sec and lime juice, and a new star was born.
California, as a state that borders our neighbors to the south, is one of the first states that is marked as enjoying a delicious margarita. Today, especially in Southern California, finding a good margarita is as easy as finding a good taco, both which are staples of the Golden State.
The official margarita recipe contains tequila, lime juice, and triple sec, frozen or on the rocks, with the infamous salt on the rim. Since its creation, however, variations have been made, making the drink as versatile as ever. Here are three that you can get to enjoy at Moby’s:
